2004 XLT Sport Package
I just purchased a 2004 XLT with the Sport Package. It does not have the message/trip computer option. I have run the tank low on a few occasions and wonder if there is any type of warning indicator to indicate Low Fuel??

Yes, you should hear a beep and see a red light saying

Check Gauge... You need to fill up as soon as possible (be sure to use techron if you can, otherwise your gas gauge will give you problems)

so check gauge in reality means low fuel?
I was wondering if my gauges weren't just messing up when there wasn't much fuel in the tank. :$

It's that scary beep that makes you nervous...

You don't have much travel distance or sitting time left! Fill up as soon as possible

out, Happy Thanksgiving!

the check gauge light just means that there is a gauge on the cluster that needs checking. it doesn't necessarily mean its the gas... im pretty sure anyway

Okay...

The original post was: Is there a low fuel indicator?

The answer is yes, two... a beep, which is triggered by the needle dropping to E: The beep is caused by the warning from the gauge indicator. Which means you have about a gallon left...

100% correct

You are right... the frustrating thing is you have to look at each one until you see what's going on.

If it's not the gas, then there is another issue.

Side note: I read that the gas also acts as a coolant for the internal fuel pump (if it's in the gas tank). So constantly running low on fuel may cause premature wear of the fuel pump.
I don't know if it's true or not, but I always used wait until it was low on fuel before filling up. And then my fuel pump failed. In my case, it could have just been because of the high mileage.

That's nice to know... So keeping at least a 1/4 tank is advisable?

Thanks Guys!! I don't let it get to low but I wanted to see if a warning light or something came on. If you have the trip computer option the manual says it will tell you when it gets to thirsty.

Welcome to this forum! Running too low on fuel is bad for the pump, and the rest of the fuel system. Sludge which sits on the bottom of the tank gets sucked into the fuel system, and clogs the fuel injectors, the pressure regulator, the internal sock filter in the tank, and the fuel filter.
