I have a 2002 Edie Bauer with 125,000 miles. Runs fine but in last month my gas milage has dropped from combined city/hi way of 16.5 mpg to eight mpg.

Thought it might be in 4x4 but in an icy parking lot only the rear wheels spin.

Makes noises turning at low speeds and doesn't coast well.

Help.

I would check the brake calipers. If they are older and rusty they stick.

What are your fuel trims reading?

Check into the 4x4 control module also. Something definitely not right. Also which engine? (Go to the user control panel and fill in your vehicle specs! Help us help you!)

Thanks guys

Number 4: What are fuel trims and how do I read them?

DrDoom: how do I check into the 4x4 control module? Where is the user control panel? The car has the smaller V-6.

You have long term and short term fuel trims.

Long term, is how your vehicle has been increasing or decreasing fuel over a period of time.
Short term, is ^ but right now.

Positive = adding fuel, negative = reducing fuel.

An OBDII reader (not basic versions) can read them. Found under live data.

If your car is adding fuel, I'd expect your mileage to go down.

You get to the User Control Panel by clicking on the "Quick Links" at the top of this page.
