- 2003 XLS
I recently purchased a 2003 Explored XLS with 75k miles. I knew at the time of purchase it would need a wheel bearing (front left). After driving it for about a week, I heard a whining coming from the read differential. A little research on the forums (Thank you!) and I concluded it was likely that the differential needed to be rebuilt. The dealership gave a short warranty and were excellent to work with. They rebuilt the rear diff at no cost and even did the front wheel bearing at no cost. While they had the rear end apart I paid for parts and minimal labor for them to do a full brake job. All was great, drove it home in silence and it was awesome. Now when driving in my neighborhood (between 20-30 mph), there is a whining noise coming from the front. Not real loud, but I must not have been able to hear it before because of the wheel bearing and rear diff. I'm wondering if it could be the new bearing wearing in or maybe some tire noise? Seems odd that it is only at real low speeds. Just wondering if anyone had some ideas. I'm going to try under/over inflating the tires tonight to see if I notice a difference in noise, but other than that I'm not sure where to look.
