Hi all,

I may need to change one of my front lower balljoints in the near future.

My question is, can you just change the balljoint, or do you need to replace the lower arm.
An ad on Ebay lists lower balljoint for Ford Explorer 1995-2005, but the Haynes manual states "1995 and later models....The balljoints on upper and lower control arms are not removeable or serviceable. If a balljoint is damaged or worn, replace the control arm"

Is the Haynes manual correct, or can I just replace the balljoint itself.

Thanks
Mike

You can replace the lower ball joint seperately from the arm.

Thanks for the reply!!!

Sorry, I forgot to say the car is a 2000 North Face.

Does that make any difference?

Thanks
Mike

Mike. My 99 North Face looks like it has a seperate lower balljoint as per the ones on ebay. GRoB

Should be able to replace just ball joint
Good how to with pics here
ball joint sticky

I didn't use use a press. I braced the lower arm and hit the top of the ball joint (no grease nipple) with a BFH.
Put the new ball joint in the freezer overnight and get it out once you are ready to put it in. Clean out the hole real good then gently knock the new one in.

Cheers guys, I might give it a go.

I need to jack it up first and make sure that it is faulty as I am only going by the last MOT advisory (before I owned the car).
I do have a slight knock as I go over bumps, so I reckoned that's the case.

Thanks again,
Mike

Does anyone know of anyone local(ish) to Reading that would take on this job?

Thanks
Mike

I've been out and checked and yes the balljoints are separate from the arm.

Bloody Haynes manual gets it wrong again :(

I just someone to do it now :)

Thanks
Mike
