Finally getting to the rebuild on my 5-spd, is there a rebuild photo diary anywhere for the M5R1? Tried to search for it, but didn't come up with anything. Thanks.

im not an expert, but i think explorers came with a m5od and full sive trucks came with the m5r1 trans. i've also heard they're very similar transmissions.

Nope- Just went through this getting parts for mine. Explorers, Navajos, Aerostars, and some Rangers came with the Mazda M5R1 (and from what the tranny guy at the Ford dealer said, there was an oddball T-Bird, too) and the F-150, some Broncos, and very few light-duty F-250's came with the M5R2. They are both sometimes referred to as an M5OD, and they are both built exactly the same, but the R2 is a lot beefier than the R1. Anyway... no ideas on a rebuild diary, eh? I just finished mine tonight, but wanted to check it out and see if anyone else has done one before. They are pretty straightforward, but I was just curious.

ok so m5od and m5r1 are the same. i was probably thinking m5r2 because i was thinking of a stronger trans

Yup- and if you ever need parts for either one, be sure to check out Southwest Gear of El Paso, TX. They had everything in stock, were extemely helpful over the phone, and decent prices, too. When it was all said and done, I had less than $200 into all new bearings, synchros, and a reseal kit delivered to MI. OEM bearings, too!

Thanks Brooklyn, these are the ones I've been lookin' for! Geez... I remember looking at them a few months ago, but for some reason I couldn't dig em up now. Anyway, thanks again!
