MAC Intake

Hey guys,
recently I have decided to look into getting an intake for the X, as I am looking for better gas mileage (ok a bit o' performance too). I've seen these MAC intakes places.. they're relatively inexpensive ($180-ish). however, all the listings are for 96-01 OHV 4.0L's. will this fit my 95? I dont see a reason why it wouldnt... if it does or doesnt please somebody who has one of these (or experience with them) let me know.. thanks

yeah it fits, just have to play with the bracket

know which bracket in particular? the one that attaches it to the manifold? or the one near the intake/maf?

just the one that braces it, shouldn't be hard at all to fab up

You are probably going to run into the same problem I have though, someone correct me if I'm wrong here but for the mac intake (which I already have) to work on the 95 you need the mass air sensor upgrade as well and unfortunatley explorer express dosen't carry them anymore and doug is also currently looking for someone to mfg these but no luck yet ... I tried to install the mac with no mass air sensor upgrade and it just dosen't work unless I missed something ...

For that price I would venture to say that it doesn't, only way to find out is to ask but i'm not thinking it does, I may have found a maf we can use but its around 320 dollars which probably isn't bad but just something else to drop benjamins on

thanks for all the help... but what about the K&n intake? it says use stock MAF.. but thats a bit of a problem.. as its imbedded in that big ugly plastic air intake.
the other thing is.. what else can i do (CHEAP and SIMPLE) to improve my gas mileage? I am getting 14-17 right now.. and im not driving an ####### most of the time.. I'm going for plugs/wires (maybe coil packs, how much will these help?) as well as new ATF fluid.. I keep my tires inflated to 30 front 35 back.. anything else I'm missing? thanks

I would go 35 all on the tire PSI
Synth oil will also inprove your MPG's

Correct; however it is prudent to use a quality filter such as K & N, Mobil 1 or Amsoil.

Fram are considered low quality filters.

Inmy opinion, no.

I tried restore. didnt do too much, seemed to idle smoother. Seafoam was a much better expendature of money. Seafoam is amazing!! If u dont know what seafoam is search for it

I use Mobil 1 Extended Performance in my 03 X with a K&N oil filter. I can't really stake claims on increased gas mileage, nor can I say it made any difference at all for that matter. Even before I put 31's on there..

that crap is a ripoff......get the adapter for the maf to bolt a cone filter on it, and get one of the pipes for a honda or something off of ebay for $30....may sit diagonally a slight bit...but it'd probably work.

i had the same problem with the MAC intake. they really dont make an intake for the 95 OHV.

A alternative that i found was an intake by AMSi. check out the thread i started in the group buy section. I purchased the whole intake set for 99.00

Works great. and i see no diffrence with the mac set up.

Just for what it's worth, I did put a can of that restorer in my old 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan that had 135000 miles on it and had a bad lifter ticking noise that I couldn't get quieted with anything else that I tried and after about 200-300 miles the lifter noise went away. So if you have noisy lifters it only costs about 8 bucks for a 6 cyl engine to give it a try, as I said it worked on my old 3.8 Dodge motor.
