Hi, im not sure if my Explorer is Maf or speed density. If its MAF, will upgrade the MAF give me an increase in gas milliage? I figured that it would boost the power up a little bit, but at this point I'm concerned more w/ mpg. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-Cody

it is a maf. upgrading the maf alone won't really do much. an exhause would probrally help your milage the most

I agree the MAF wont do much. It is already 70mm stock or somewhere close. Its not far from an aftermarket one.

ok thanks a bunch. I'm acctually getting ready to upgrade the exhaust, as mine is acutally rotting off. lol. Anyhow, what if I was to get the upgraded BBK tb, upgraded MAF, and say a jet chip. What kind of performance (all around) should I gain? Thanks for the info, much appreciated!

wel jet chips are crap for the explorers. but a tb and maf wint healp without am intake first

The reason aftermarket MAFs increase mileage, and they definately do as long as you do not drive crazy, is that they are more efficient in the electronics.

An Apten chip will yield singificant improvement in MPG's

I went from 235-240 to a tank to 280-285 to a tank and that is standing on it from time to time.

Going from a 70mm maf to a 75mm maf will get you approx 25% more airflow.
If you have an open intake and an aftermarket exhaust it will be helpfull in generating more H.P..
A chip will tend to tie all together, maf alone is a waste of money IMO

Thanks a bunch, I'm going to plan a nice new xmas list for my g/f when I get back from school tonight :) I just added a new exhaust today, a full custom Dynomax catback. I like it a lot, its got a nice sweet mellow tone and you can barely hear it from the cabin, which is exactly what I was looking for. Hopefully I'll have pics up tomarrow...

ya the only reason why i got mine was to have it calabrated to my 24lb injectors and i had my chip programed for the new maf

By the way, where would I go about getting an Apten chip? I hear a lot of people on here talk about them. Any site or info would be appreciated. Thanks

thanks
