I was given a brand new shinny Pro-M MAF for my ’99 SOHC.
I installed it after disconnecting the battery. After reconnecting the batter the truck was cranked.
The idle, if you can call it an idle, was appalling and the truck would hardly run. I gave it some throttle and it was difficult to keep it running. At more throttle it ran, however, ran rough ( more or less like two spark plugs were disconnected ). I turned it off and inspected the installation; all was well.
Enough of this crap; I removed the Pro-M MAF, disconnected the battery and installed the stock factory MAF. After reconnecting the battery and inspecting the install, the truck was cranked. It purred like a kitten and ran perfectly. I then went on a test ride and all was perfect.
I did notice a physical size difference in the Pro-M and the factory MAF as well as a difference in the attachment area ( where it goes into the stock air tube ). In the picture, the Pro-M is on the left and the stock is on the right.
I assume there is a problem with the Pro-M MAF that was sent to me. I sent an e mail alerting them of the problem. We shall see what they say ….
