MAF question(stupid)

can anyone tell me how to get the little plastic bead out of the front screw? i have tried a couple times and only broke little pieces off. i think i need to clean it, and not being able to get it off makes me feel like i have a learning disability.

I have used a rotary tool to chip away the plastic with good results. You can always cut a slot in the screw head and use a flat blade screwdrive onit.

Hmm, I havn't seen that. I thought the reference was to a security torx screw, which has a hole in the bit.

thanks guys. i have the special torx bit, but i can never get that thing out. i have to find a friend with a dremel.

my moms 96 has a maf thats got a big plastic round cover on it, after you get it all out of that, its fine.... however, i guess ford decided that they wanted it to be non serviceable if there was a maf proble,... my old 94 jsut had the security torx screws, but on my moms 96, it appears they stuck jb weld in one of the screws rendering it pretty much useless....

To clean it you really don't need to remove that screw, just get some spray eletrical cleaner and spray the element inside the tube. You can get the special Torx bit for less then $2 at most good parts stores though if you insist.
