MAF relay...

Hey everyone. So the issue is hesitation when I accelerate. I have done everything from changing the MAF, Cleaning my throttle body, changing my sparkplugs and wires, changing the air and fuel filters, cleaning the IAC, running heet and other fuel injector treatments through my car, and changing the throttle position sensor. I'm am nowhere near a mechanic but I do know my way around a car (for the most part.) I went and had my codes scanned before the MAF change and about 8 things popped up including bad MAF sensor, Vac leak, and a few other things. After the MAF swap I disconnected my battery to clear the codes and now the only code that is being shown is "MAF low voltage" or something along those lines. I suspect it's a relay, but it could also be a faulty MAF or the wiring harness itself. I want to change the relay first because that is the cheapest option and plus that's what I suspected it was when I got that code. So my question is which relay is the relay that corresponds with the MAF sensor in my car? I have pulled up diagrams and I haven't seen anything specifically saying MAF sensor. HELP PLEASE!

I don't believe there is any relay between the MAF and the PCM. The code indicates that the voltage the PCM is seeing is below some threshold for a normally functioning MAF. If you replaced it already, it's probably a wiring issue: a broken wire, a bad connection, something poking through the harness insulation and shorting a line to ground, etc. The MAF has four wires coming in: battery power, ground, and two connections to the PCM. You should probably start by disconnecting the MAF and checking that it gets power and ground, then disconnecting the harness at the PCM and checking the two wires that go to the MAF for resistance and insulation from ground. Sorry, I don't have the 2001 book to give you the detailed pin numbers or wire colors. Hopefully somebody else will jump in with that information!

There's no such thing as a MAF relay. As 1998Exp suggested, check your wiring, connections voltage and ground.

Okay I'll do that as soon as I can. Reason I ask is because i went to o'Riley's and they had the relay. That's what they suggested when I got my codes scanned. I also checked rock auto and they also have MAF relays in stock for my car. So now I'm confused.

Seems to be a standard SPDT relay, listed for the wrong application. My 1998 EVTM does not show any relay in the MAF circuit, and it's highly unlikely that there would be one in your 2001. In general, sensors draw tiny amount of current and thus do not need relays - they are wired directly into the PCM.
I would strongly suggest that you trust Koda, who has been repairing Explorers for years much more than the kid at O'Reily's or the Rock Auto catalog.

Oh man, if you're taking repair device from a discount auto parts store you're in trouble. Most of the people they hire don't know squat about vehicles. Your're much better off asking for help on this forum. You wont always get good advise, but many of us have been there, done that.
