Hi,
My LED went out of my stock stereo and I was told that to replace it with an aftermarket stereo, I would lose the steering wheel controls (volume, track, etc). Does anyone know if this is true? Also, I've been watching Ebay for an exact match of the one that I have (Mach AM/FM/CD/CASS), but are there any other stock models that may be compatible with my vehicle (99 Eddie Bauer)? Thanks!

'98 and up Mach units will work. Make sure it has the two holes on each side. If you're not sure, post the link and someone will chime in.

There is something to use the controls with an aftermarket radio, but I forget what its called.

That device mounts to the wheel I believe, and transmits an IR signal to the aftermarket HU.

If you buy a factory HU, find the Premium version, with the "RDS" button. All of the Mach units had the display problems, and I've been told that the Premium HU is compatible with changers, and steering wheel controls.

To identify the Premium version, you might have to consult with one of the radio repair places. Just make sure that the factory HU has the "RDS" button instead of a "clock" button. Good luck,

its like a $200 option to keep your steering wheel controls with an aftermarket HU...that is why i didnt get it added to my system when it was installed
