What are some DIY wear and tare maintenance I can do? I have 113k miles.

So far here's what I've done...
Struts
Sway stabilizer bar links
Ball joints
Spark plugs
Wires
Fuel filter
Throttle body clean
MAF clean

all fluids. (both diffs, t-case, tranny, power steering, and brake flush) Check suspension bushings. Fan clutch, serpentine belt, idler pullies, tentioner pulley. Check CV axle boots. If there are any tears expect that axle to fail soon after.

Sun roof drains drain correctly?

Check Brake Lines. Very important to not have cracked/swelled lines.

hmmmm... Make spare wheel works correctly? Would be good to have that functioning.

That's all I got...

Oh for the brake fluid. Brake fluid is supposed to a golden clear. Most brake fluid is dark green due to algae growth. Yes algae does grow in brake fluid. Weird that they would use a fluid that algae can live in...

Thanks Joe. I want this truck to last a while.

You are in NJ I see. Was the car?

How is the underside as far as rust concerns?

It was always in NJ. Little to no rust.

I want to have my mechanic change the differential fluid, transfer case, and tranny. How much fluid does each of those take and what kind?

if algae grows there then there's no brake fluid, it's all water. brake fluid is hygroscopic that's why some cars needs to be bleed/flush every 2 or 4 years.

the differential and transfer case flush and fill are very simple DIY jobs. The tranny requires some skill to drain and fill.

as I remember you need 2 pints for the transfer case (royal purple atf) and for each diff (mobil 1 gear oil)
transmission drain and fill is around 6-7 quarts of mercon v

I also have an 05 with 113K. I would highly suggest a tranny flush asap. Mine is shifting hard and I am about to do it myself along with changing the filter. I drained my rear diff 2 weeks ago with 112k miles....nothing but sludge. When I do my tranny I will also be doing the transfer case and front diff as well. that should be this saturday

My tranny was rebuilt at 93k miles

No dont do a flush. Flushing at high mile has proven time and time again to be teh WRONG move.

The t-case take more than 2 pints. Just fill the rear diff, front diff, and t-case to the fill plugs. That is to spec.

Just made an appointment for next Friday at my local STS to change the diff and tease fluid as well as fixing my broken tire pressure sensor.

does the pressure sensors show the pressure or just a warning?

Tire pressure sensor failed

i know that. What im asking is, on a ford, do you actually get to see the pressure for each tire like a GM or does it only say low tire??

My Explorer doesn't have TPMS sensors in the rims, bought it that way, so I get a TPMS sensor fault on the message board at startup, but on my neighbors Ford Taurus Limited, they get a "Low Tire Pressure" message on their message screen, but it doesn't tell them which tire is affected, so all 4 tires need to be checked with a hand tire pressure gauge.

I bought the truck with the broken sensor so I'm not sure how it's supposed to function

well thats pretty lame. I would expect with sensors to view each tire. I guess ford is just a few behind...

Well, this was from 2005....

it's suppose to be nice until you rotate the tires, that's why I hate TPMS.
my 2007 toyota camry hybrid only says "low tire pressure" so you have to figure out which tire manually (super lame for a high tech car). The malibu that I rented has readings for all but I believe you need a dealership or special tools to recalibrate during tire rotation.

Is the front and rear differential the same as a transfer case? I went for a price today and they quoted me for a front and rear diff and said it was the same as a transfer case.
