HELP! I was on the beach Friday and a guy in a jeep sahara got stuck. I pulled him off of a dune but I developed a major tranny leak. I looked under there while it was running and fluid was pouring out of the very front of the tranny . I just managed to get it the mile home and it was empty by the time I parked it.

I had to rev it pretty hard to get the guys jeep out. I had the tranny rebuiltbut over 5 years ago.

What do I look for? It was literally pouring out like if I just opened a bottle and dumped it. Huge red spot on the beach trail and an inch wide trail leading right to my truck.

front seal is gone sorry to say :salute:

Start the truck and tell us if it is still leaking.

If not Add some ATF to bring it to normal fluid level.

You may be fine! I hope you just over heated the tranny fluid and it boiled out of the overfill vent.

cooler line or pump seal or cracked pump. good luck. doubt you overheated unless you spin the wheels alot

Thanks 4 the help. I did spin the tires long and hard, fought me to get out of the dune.

Started up and no leak Yet!

Stick was bone dry. Added leak stop and 3 quarts of atf and drove around. So far so good. Only a few small drops and fluid is up to the hash marks. Thanks for the posts.

I hate to say it but 5 years on a rebuild A4LD is pretty damn good!
If it leaked out the front pump seal once, chances are it will do it again..

just keep an eye on the fluid level and the leak, start saving for another rebuild......

For what it is worth I brought my 'sploder back from the shore and the tranny seems fine. I refilled it and put several hundred trouble free mile on it. Looks like I boiled it trying to pull the guy out that drove past me while my tranny was puking. Thanks for the help and I just wanted to post an update for those that helped.

Were you using low range at the time?
