Alright guys, ive searched and searched and have so many ideas of what and how many subs to buy. So i figure i let you guys think some stuff up to see if im missing anything and even if i thoguht of some good ones. i have some space but i also do want to keep some cargo space back there, how much is negotiable. Budget is about 400-600 roughly. I listen to rap more than anything else but still listen to all different types, rock, r n b. im thinking more spl like 60/40 but 50/50 is good too. ill be making the box myself with some friends. So what would you guys get. Sub or Subs and amp. I want it to hit hard but also not sound terrible. Let me know!! Anything

Do something clean. Here is a picture I found of an Explorer on another site. Very clean install and fine for 2 or 3 subs. The bottom part is the amp.

thats looks real good, i wish i could make something like that. i have no expeirence with bondo or fiberglass, really anyhting like it so i was planning on making a "plain old" mdf and liquid nails box. if i had the money i would definitly want an enclosure like that but you know how that goes...

u talking 400-600 for just the subs/amp?

Have you considered into looking for some real good used equipment? I see lots of it everywhere with boxes already made with good prices on them. I found a site today where someone was selling an Alpine 7998 brand new in the box for 500 bucks. I almost died, I paid over 800 for mine.

JayHawk, here is a good web site to read allot about audio equipment. They also have a for sell forum there and allot of great deals, but buyer beware.

Hope that helps.

That is exactly what I was thinking when I started thinking about the "thing" that is currently in my cargo area.

Fiberglass and bondo isn't really hard at all. I'm sure there is someone who lives near your on the forum, or someone you know who has done it before that could show you. BoominXplorer showed me how to use it.

I think in the end, you'll be happier with a custom, very nice looking box.

Did you mean $400-600 for JUST subs/amps? or do you need a HU as well? Dont forget to include extras, like wiring.

I think before people can start suggesting, they need to know that.

very very true, i forgot about that. just subs and amp. i have a panasonic hu and speakers i decided to get last. well if anyone wants to help shoot me a pm or email at acg137@bu.edu i live in northern new jersey. by the way, really enjoyed watching your project come together came out great.

bbq hot dogs: i was thinking about it. i want to figure out what to get first and then look for it. but youre right, used isnt bad. i jiust dont know where to start! haha

I dont know the success people have had w/ connecting aftermarket subs to the stock HU?

oh no, i meant i have the panasonic HU already. it give 35w x 4, the door speakers im gonna do last

I added it up... came in a little over $160 so far... UGH. I didn't even realize how much it was costing me till now. If I could do it again, it would be about $50 cheaper because I would know exactly what to do and I wouldn't waste as much as I did on this one.

I'm guessing you could build one for ~$85...
$20 MDF
$15 caulk/screws
$10 fleece
$25 fiberglass resin
$12 Bondo
$10+ sandpaper

or

$20 MDF
$10 caulk/screws

well honestly i owuld pay 160 in a second for that box so i think you made out pretty well
