How To Put an H3 bulb on the 833 (Fog) Socket

First you need to have some quick disconnects like the ones in this picture
DSCF1871.jpg

Next you need to get your original socket and get the bulb off, and you also got to get the legs of the bulb off the socket prongs and it should look like this

Clean the prongs with some sand paper for a better connection

H3 bulb dissection…

Here’s the bulb I (possibly you) will be working with
DSCF1878.jpg

Gently pull it straight out, one hand holding the metal part, the other holding the thin part of the bulb closest to the metal. If you try to be really quick you might break the legs of the bulb if pulled correctly it should look like this…

Next I decided to put the quick disconnects that way I’m not struggling with them when they are crimped and ready on the bulb (*note you may have to get something to increase the spacing in the middle of the quick disconnect, I used a knife). I decided to cut off the extra piece that the wire would normally feed through, as it would make a better contact with the prong and bulb leg.

And finally put the bulb on and crimp the quick disconnects to the leg of the bulb (don’t mind the crappy ness of my crimp job, it was my test bulb anyway)

Here’s the PIAA H3 mounted (man it took longer than the Sylvania!)

Then plug in and it should work (mine did)

*you could try soldering instead of the quick disconnects, but I was unable to do that after many minutes of trying, plus the quick disconnects are better for when you have to replace the bulb, just unplug and plug back in instead of unsoldering repeating the cycle all over again*

Here’s an after of the fog light, apparently I don’t have a before because I wasn’t considering doing a “How-To”

look good. now, wouldnt it be easier to just go buy a pair?

a pair of 833 fogs? they dont come in hyper white

Does the filiment of the H3 line up w/the 833? In other words is the filiment of both bulbs the same distance from the base?
You would probably want them as close to the same as possible so that the optics of the light are the same
Thats a good write up and a cool mod. You can now get 55 watt bulbs in the fogs.

Thats awesome, your foglight capsules look real clean too. Did you clean them? If so, what did you use, mine are a nasty yellow/brown color. I just won some H3's on Ebay.

well if you do it like i did it would be just about the same distance (maybe shorter). i didnt want it to long as to where it might hit the glass on the fog... but if you wanted to you could probably get them to the exact distance

i just washed my car, accidentally got some water in the fog housing (didnt have the bulbs on at the time) so i just took them off dried them out and cleaned the front of the glass (i want diamond cut fogs though to go with the rest of my setup)

Plus those 833 are about $8.99 around here and I lose one every week (will have to check housing to see there is a leak).

very nice mod

nice indeed.

i'd not get anything more than a 55 watt cap, your lenses are plastic. just an opinion.

ford factory lenses 96-98 were plastic not glass.

99-01 were glass h1 bulb type fogs

my 98 was definetly plastic.

alright your right i just checked... i could of swore they were glass (last time i messed with them)
