I want to make my muffler louder. I have already put a new muffler on the Explorer but it isnt quite as loud or as deep as i wanted. I have heard of drilling holes. Is this a good way to do this? Or does it just end up sounding stupid? and does it even affect the way it sounds. How about those tips that say they make it sound better. Is this true? I dont see how they can but maybe they do. Please let me know any information you have. All suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks

I got dual 40 series on my 01 sport and it sounds real loud and deep

haha, dont modify the muffler, if it has a resonator remove that. You can delete the cat converters if you like your car to be emission illegal. I would rather get a straight tru muffler instead, but none of these will make it deeper on acceleration, just louder. If you have a 3 chamber flowmaster its really deep and quiet, a 2 chamber is still deep but louder. What do you have now.

those large coffee can exhaust tips with the edgees rolled inwards will make it a lot fartier/deeper if you are into the civic ricer burner scene :D

i took my whole exhaust off after the cats. It sounded mean!

yeah just take it off and weld or clamp a piece of pipe in its place.

I say just put a new muffler on. Some people flush their muffler with salt water, sprinkling in salt, then spraying the hose, but that would be hard to do, with the muffler not at the rear of the vehicle.

Im putting my tip right after the muffler :D

Does anyone know if a Lighting muffler or a mustang after market magna flows would fit a 97 xlt? i have the idea of putting either a lighting or magna flow mustang exhaust. Any ideas or comments?

Does anybody know the sizes of the inlet and oullet on muffler 2002 Exp?

well Im looking for just a little louder

I wanna go a bit louder so i was thinking about removing the resonator how big of a change do you think it would make.

how much of a change does removing the resonator make?

Its not going to be night and day, the muffler does most of the work, the resonator just tunes it a bit, like how some intakes have odd chambers attached to the air filter box. Dont expect a drastic change in my opinion unless your ears are sensitive :D

well im just looking to make it a bit louder . i dont want anything to intense.
just a bit of a rumble what would be best?

well i went and just got a new muffler set up. i told him i wanted something louder and deeper. thats exactly what he did. i got dual glass packs, dumped. it was cheap to like $120. it sounds great. it isnt like so loud that it is annoying but when it is idleing i can hear it rumble now. i love it. couldnt be happier.

i want exactly what willys described, louder and deeper but not annoying. i have heard dual glass packs in person and it sounds good. i have heard recordings of dual flowmaster 40s and it sounds better, but i don't know about them in person. anybody with any experience between these two setups?

glasspacks give you a hole in muffler sound, kind of thrashy, rough etc, some popping.

umm:| at idle both I think, when driving the Flowies, but they might resonate at around 1800 rpm or so?? a real deep low moan that will ring your ear drums at highway speed. The glasspacks will give you a raspy snap, crackle pop note and just get "nastier" with rpm, is the best i can describe, like the General Lee? :D

just "you tube" glasspacks and flowmaster im sure you'll find some fine examples of people revving the snot of their cars

ok heres a glasspack on a V6

notice the deep idle and just random farting after revved haha, but it wont resonate on the highway

Heress a Flowmaster on a V6

deep idle then a tuned sound when revved, will resonate on highway...there are much better mufflers than these out there...eventhough I say that I bought another cat back Flowmaster for my Gen I truck on backorder for a month now :( since the old one finally rotted out
