I'm not having good luck with my 1998 Ford Explorer Sport... I've had it since August 2005... but just recently it makes this siren noise, I actually thought it sounds like a tornado sound. It's like buzzing, and the RMP are normally at 1,000 when i'm just pushing on the brakes.. but when it starts making this noise it goes from 1 down to 500 then up to 2,000 then back down... and keeps doing that until i push on the gas. it also feels like it's going to stall.
if anyone have any idea what this is could you please help me out? thanks

Your first post, welcome to the site!

I think what you are describing are the classic symptoms of a bad idle air control valve. Here is a link that shows you pictures of what it is and where it is:

You may have to cut/paste it.

They can be cleaned, but when they start to howl, it's time for a new one. If you hunt around you should find one at the parts store or online for 60 dollars or so.

Good luck!

Hey thanks,
the link helped me a lot. It happened again today, but then went away. My check engine light is on, and the dude from AutoZone checked it and it's my control value.
Thanks I'll need the luck.
