Is there a pan on M5ODR1 Mazda 5SPD manual transmission?

What about a rear seal? because my trans is leaking somewhere around the case.

i havent been under mine in a long time i cant remember but i have a friend that has a kit when you cant find a leak you put this dye in the fluid them like a week later you use a uv light and these tinted glasses that come with the kit. this is how i found my leaking slave cylinder

at about 150K i had a rebuild but is was done by a shop becuase i dont trust myself enought to do it myself.

i have a 5 speed in my 93 and my 91 they both seem to leak at the back of the trans where the actual gear case and extension housing meet

they both have play in the shfter as well the 91 is ok just needs the busshings. but the 93 went to bad to long and has screwed up the top plate wich is $230.00 from ford

Play in the shifter... like when you have it in a gear but you can still flop the shifter side to side quite a bit? So that kit on eBay is the fix for such a problem?

Have you installed that kit before? How hard was it? Any write-ups or instructions online that you know of?

My shifter has felt pretty "loose" lately.. I never realized the repair kit would have been so cheap..

very easy to install,
-first make sure it is in neutral/out of gear
-there are 3 bolts holding down the shifter take those out and the shifter should pull right out
-there are 2 pins that keep the shifter from twisting, these wear out. the kit comes with new ones. you can hit them out with a hammer
-replace the bottom bushing with the new one in the kit
-hammer new pins in
-you remove the one nut you see at the base. Then take that nut and thread it on the bolt sticking out of the opposite side of the shifter. Tighten the nut down and it pulls the bolt out allowing you to replace the upper bushing and the brass colored cover
-once the upper bushings are in place replace the shift ball into the shift stick and put everything back together


pretty simple and worth the money

How loose is to loose? For $15 bucks I just might do mine pretty soon to.

Since I got the tunnel apart for the body lift I might as well bang in the plugs that I have ready to go also.

Another quick question... can this be done with the transmission in the vehicle or does it need to be dropped to access these parts?

Also how hard are those pins to get out?

the pins are kinda hard to get out but they will come out with force, as for taking out the transmission, that is not necessary you can access everything through the whole in the floor

transmission change

i have a 91 exployer 2 door 5 speed cant seem to find another 5 speed at a rate i can buy what do all i need to changed it to a auto instead of 5 speed i know the trans i also need the flywheeel to and what eles do i need to get are if you know what other trans 5 speed will fit? its a 4x4 and i cnt find one under 600 my daughter dont have that kind of money i am trying to find one it will fit thanks god bless you

I believe Rangers up to at least '97 used the same 5-speed transmission also, so that might help broaden your search. You can also try searching on www.car-part.com to help find one close to you.
