99 Eddie Bauer
Ok so i bought a 99 Eddie Bauer Explorer ~135000 miles and less than a week after i bought it I noticed the infamous transfer case sound, also the o/d light blinking on the dash. took it to a shop because i thought it was tranny, but they couldnt reproduce either problems. now today after i found this site, i am 99% sure that the trans case needs to be replaced/rebuilt. but does anyone here know if that will make my o/d light stop blinking? it is very selective when it blinks. i drive about 80 highway miles a day to work, and it really only seems to happen after i am about halfway and they transfer case makes the grinding sound. i also just read someones post about the cruise control affecting the o/d light, my cruise control was disconnected by the previous owner because it didn't work (that's all the information i got since i bought it from a dealer). so basically after this long drawn out explanation, im mainly curious if my o/d light will stop blinking about T case is repaired, and also what kind of common problems do explorers have with the cruise control.
Thanks!:exporange

Describe what this sound is. Is it clunking? Squeeling? Does it do it only when you're turning or all the time?

it is the same as this persons
New to this forum. This has only happened twice now but I don't want it to get worse.

I have a 4wd '98 XLT Automatic with the 4.0L SOHC, roughly 70K miles on it. Twice now i have put it into reverse but it wont engage. All i get is a very loud buzzing noise. If i put it into Drive or Park and back to Reverse it will work just fine. This has happened after its fully warmed up and when it was cold.

\ It has now made the same noise while coasting on the highway in Drive. I took my foot of the gas coming down a hill and another time when i was approaching an exit and the buzzing started. I touch the gas and it went away...let off and it started again. Checked the fluid transmission fluid and that is fine. The noise almost sounds like an electric motor. Any ideas?
