Year, Model & Trim Level
2000 XLT 4x4
I have a 2000 XLT with 2-tone paint. The body is Wedgewood Blue, but the bumpers and wheel lip moldings are gray.

I want to touch up a scratch on the rear bumper. I went to the Ford dealer & they said Ford never issued any codes for what they used as the trim paint--(go figure). THe VIN Number was no help either.

Anyway, they sold me what the girl thought was the correct match by eyeballing it, but it is not the correct match. NO refunds & exchanges too as they said I have used it now. I just assume go to another dealer or Auto Zone, Pepboys etc than deal with the person again, acting as if I was causing her an issue.

Any one have any ideas as to how to obtain the correct color?

Some good info I found while searching:

Your best bet is to take it to a body shop and have them "color map" it.
I get asked this question rather frequently. On both the two tone vehicles and colored trim vehicles are are actually several colors for each individual year. Often with in those colors are a few variances. Some vehicles the color code would be after a slash for example FS/JU ( ju is just two randome letters I pulled from thin air. ) If you do not have such a set up than the paint code is not listed.

Sorry I could not be more helpful.

Been to paint scratch before I posted this post, not much luck there.
Looking to go to a body shop is a good idea, just wondering if there was some kind of method to the madness of determining what color the trim was.

There should be a trim code on the vin sticker. It may or may not have a color code associated with it. A body shop paint system has hundreds of color chips that will help match your trim color.

Paint it black :D
