MAX A/C vs NORMAL A/C

Ok, here is the deal. I have my a/c switch to panel a/c on high and then I switch it to Max a/c, and i hear and feel no difference in between the two settings. Isn't Max a/c supposed to push out even more air than normal a/c? I can't remember it has been so long since I have owned a first gen.

it may not apply to 1st gens, but max a/c doesnt necessarily push more air.
it actually draws the air from within the cab(cooler) rather than from the outside(warmer) like normal a/c does.

Thats what it does on my '92.

You can also add in a heater control valve and tap into the vacuum line that is used for max a/c to keep hot water from going into your heater core when your on max a/c (makes the air cooler)..

In 94 they added the heater control valve.. and its an easy addition to an older first gen to get the a/c a few degrees colder.

So that's what that thing does....I broke mine one day & got a replacement & saw no mention of it in the hayes book, & didn't see it on early X's or the B2 I had.

Ok, I diagnosed the problem a little further and it seem that when I go from right to left for settings. ie. I have it on panel and it is blowing floor and panel, and when i have it on max a/c it is blowing panel. Any ideas on what causes this?

Max A/C stands for Maximum Air which is Maximum efficientcy this takes the air from inside the car and re-cools it. This will help save gas and if you dont want the outside air in your car, this is when Max.

Good tip Mark,thanks. I wish a recirculate was a dedicated function button. I use max often just to not suck in outside traffic exhaust.

Max AC is also kinder to the AC system in that the evaporator is not worked as hard hence the rest of the system works easier. If I am not mistaken FORD recommends using MAX AC most all the time (now that cabin environmental smoke seems to be less of an issue in this country.)

Apparently what the problem was a broken vacuum hose that I had to repair, and now I notice the difference between the two settings. Thank you.

I always thought MAX AC meant like it came out of all vents, like Maximum cooling lmao.
