Max A/C !?!?

A few days ago I posted a question regarding the other air filter. I got a couple of responses that I really much appreciated.

The suggestions were that at Max A/C the air would circulate around the cabin of the Xplorer. The problem is I want it to circulate HOT AIR and not cold air. I tried the setting to max a/c and the dial to red hot but still cold air came out.

What else can I try? Again thanks for all your reponses.

When trying to heat up the truck faster it's better to just leave it on heat. The cabin area of the truck dissapates heat quickly and recirculating doesn't have the same effect as recirculating cold air. Leaving it on heat will keep pulling heat from the coolant.

No no no. The reason I wanted the air circulated is because the fume from the car in front of me while stuck in traffic goes inside the cabin. I do not want this to happen that is why I want the air to circulate around the cabin.

I think mine works the same way max a/c actually uses the a/c even if it's on warm. Just turn it off while you're behind the guy.

I remove the 1/8" vacuum line to my heater control valve in the winter to give me temperature control when in MAX A/C mode on my '97. I wrap the connection to the valve with duct tape so dirt doesn't get in it and plug the hose with a golf 'T'. It lets me select "way too hot" when in MAX when I get stuck behind the smelly trucks in bumper to bumper traffic.

MAX is always cold - unless you jimmie it like Robert suggests - or your A/C is shot.....

Where is this heater control valve located?

Know what? I was thinking of using some kind of an air conditioning filter to prevent smelly exhaust fumes entering the cabin. Do you think this will work? Hhhmmm?

No to the filter. The valve is located on the heater line on your passenger side. It's pretty close to the exhaust manifold, past yoru air-box. Look for a vacuum line that goes to that general area. It will end at a metal solenoid that is installed in the heater line.

the valve has nothing to do with the intake of air to your heater... that air comes from the wiper cowl area

On Max, vacuum to the control valve shuts off coolant to the heater core, that's why it's always cold on Max (even when the blend door is broken/stuck on heat), at least that's how I understand it.

After disconnecting that vacuum line to allow hot air on MAX A/C, does the compressor engage? Important question from an MPG standpoint.

Yes, the compressor will still operate as Ford designed it. The only thing the solenoid controls is the flow of heated coolant through the heater core. In MAX, the heated coolant doesn't go through the coolant so adjusting the temperature dial doesn't do anything (there is no heat to mix in). There will be no mileage gains realized from doing this.
