Hi all, I have an '03 Limited that I have lowered 2.5 inches and now it is time for tires. I want to get the widest tire I can without rubbing to fit on the stock wheel. The tires are originally 245/65X17 which comes out to around 9.5 inches wide and 29.5 inches tall. Will 285 or 295/55X17 work? The 285's are around 11.2 wide and 29.34 tall. The 295's are around 11.6 wide and 29.78 tall. The problem I have is determining the size of the tire. I am assuming the size to be 6.5 or 7 inches wide.

Thanks
Scott

its the size of the rim which determines the max width of tyre a 255 is max for a 7" rim you can fit larger tyres to the rim but they may wear funny it will look like it is over inflated (wear in centre) this will give a smaller contant patch and will result in less performance at critical stages

in australia if you have an accident with incorrectly fitted tyres your insurance may refuse to pay under Australian design rule #24 which says tyre must be the same or greater than what is on the tyre placard
speed rating, load carrying capacity, ie 120/h

circumfrence can change by 15 mm so to put wider tyres on you need to lower the profile, it doesn't work well for people that are into off road (big muddies)
