I was driving to the store and I was at a complete stop and when I went to get going I pushed the petal down it rev'd a bit then started to move. 10 Minuted later at a stop sign I stepped the gas to get going and nothing happened then about 3 seconds later she started moving. I hear no noise or clunking and the oil it topped up and Red.

Do I need a new tranny? It has about 290K on the truck. In canadian dollars what would a rebuilt tranny cost if I had to replace this shiit?

I have had 3 of them go out on different vehicles, and they all did just as you described. I have also seen it happen on a trans that was just low on fluid, but with that many miles you cannot complain if it's tired. Around here it would cost $2,600 US, to rebuild it, that's $2,607 Canadian (today). A rebuilt tranny, if you can install it, would save you about $800 but the warranties can be tricky if the installer is not certified by the seller. A good mechanic rebuilding yours, with a decent warranty, would be best.

I think vroomzoomboom might be on the right track because after thinking it only happens when the truck starts pulling forward from a stop. I have no codes coming up that sences a problem nor am I having a problem in any other gears. The tranny shifts and sounds fine. I drove it to walmart tonight and I did not have any problems it did not act up so the probblem may just be starting and will get worst. I am scared to go out and buy a rebuilt tranny at the price and get stuck with the same problem if that is not the answer. Is there ways to test to see if the tourque converter is slowley dieing?

not really. if your fluid is up, and isn't brown and smell burn. if it shifts threw the gears nicely i would have to say that your problem is your converter. that's my 2 cents.

I found a rebuilt tranny and the guy will put it in for a total of 1000 and thats with the cost of the tranny. Can someone tell me the types of things I should notice with a new rebuild put in. at the moment it slips when you are at a standstill and once you pull away it hesitates before it takes off. The truck is also alittle sluggish going off the mark and going up hills.

Does anyone know what diffrence you will notice with a new transmission? I am getting mine done and I am excited and don't know what to expect.

I am still wondering the answer to the above question can someone let me know. Thanks

I just put in a rebuilt tranny and when the damm ford got warm I notice it is still slippin. any ideas???????????????????

When having a trans replaced always ask them if they test it on a Dyno or by air pressure. If they check via air pressure, walk away until you find a shop that tests their rebuilts by placing them on a dynamometer. Reason... you have alot less chance that the tranny will go bad after a short while because the trans has been ran for at least one hour under various loads and has been ran through all the gears at least twice.

I will ask them but I already purchased it so even if they didn't it is probably to late. I do have a 1yr warrenty on it.
