I was wondering if any of you people know if the MERCON V(used in late model explorers) for the transmission is synthetic. I was at Auto Zone and I notice that the only MERCON V fluid they carry is the AAMOCO brand and it says synthetic on the bottle. I have the '00 V-8 with the 4-speed auto-tranny. I would like to know, since if the MERCON V is not synthetic I want to switch it over to the best.

The Mercon V bottles that I bought say "Synthetic Blend". That would mean part synthetic, part dinosaur compost.

Yeah, I hope it is synthetic or a blend of it. I really hate to buy like 14 quarts(for a '00 V8) of synthetic tranny fluid.

The Mercon V can be either. You'll have to read the package closely. Typical blends contain 5% or less of synthetic. So you'll be paying more for no real performance benefit of the synthetic.

Take a look at AMSOIL ATF. Lasts 3 times longer than conventional fluid, reduces operating temps 20 to 50 degrees and runs cleaner. You won't get the varnish and sludge build up that's possible with the dino stuff.

is ford's mercon V syntec.? they flushed my synthetic out and i didn't know if the stuff they put in was synthetic.

I know Ford sells both the Mercon synthetic and Mercon V. The Ford Mercon synthetic cost three times as much as the Ford Mercon V.

i hope it's synthetic >>

[my last transmission lasted 460,000 km with the synthetic fluid , and it still shifted with a bang . in canada i can't find mercon v synthetic would it be all right to use mercon iv synthetic ?

If it says to use Mercon V, it'd be a good bet you don't want to use anything else.

What does quart of Mercon V synthetic go for? AMSOIL's synthetic ATF retails for $7.00 (U.S.) per quart. It meets all the Mercon and Mercon V specs. Lasts 3 times longer than conventional ATF.
