Mercury Marauder

I was thinking 3.73s with that engine would rule, but then that's not much different than 3.55.
The Marauder can go way faster than it's limited to, use a chip to remove the govenor and they've gotten near Cobra times for top speed.

4.10's are a must on a mustang gt with an auto if your doing performance upgrades, otherwise if you have a manual 3.73's are the best all around with a charger and everything (on the 4.6 sohc engine)

The 99-01 Cobras, it's almost a requirement to have at least 4.10's installed, and then a lot of them wish they went with 4.30's. On the 03' Cobras people have dropped close to a second of their 1/4 time using 4.10 gears instead of the stockers.

The 4.10's might hurt top speed a little, but scince nobody ever drives their car hardly at top speed, doesn't really matter. On the other hand, 4.10's will improve the top end greatly as the 4.10, 4.30's might even be better with the Marauders xtra weight and auto, will keep the dohc in it's power band which is sick up high as the dohc loves to rev.

Even 3.55s are better than the 3.08s my '95 4.6L SOHC Thunderbird had. When Ford dropped the SC Thunderbird in '96 they offered a performance package to the Thunderbird that included either a 3.55 or 3.73 (can't remember which) rear axle that cut .5 seconds off the 1/4 time. I think 4.10s in the Marauder would be overkill. It would have great acceleration off the line, but I think the RPMs would be too high for highway driving.

not really, my friends auto GT is only about 300rpm or so higher on the highway with his 4.10's compared to stock. And another friends 01' Cobra with 4.10's is also only a like 300 rpm pr so higher then with stock 3.27 gears.

And also, most Cobra guys wish they went with 4.30's or more scince the dohc loves to rev.

MM&FF also said it needs at least 4.10's, 1) being that it's an auto and kinda heavy and 2) the dohc doesn't work well with 3.55's or 3.73 b/c each time it would shift it loses some of it's powerband.

For example say it runs at 3000rpm at 80mph, it would only run at like 3400 or so with 4.10's which would actually be better scinc the dohc is more effiecient as the revs are higher compared to downl low.

4.10's would hurt top end speed, but would help out greatly in acceleration or at the track when you trap. The 4.10's would keep the dohc right in the powerband when you trap.
