Metal shavings on 8.8 fill plug?

I just did a gear change, used gears, new bearings in my 8.8, and its been maybe two months, no noise no problems with install. But I just checked my fluid and the plug was full of shavings and gunk. Is there a problem?

...There could be several reasons for this..:scratch:

..How many miles have you put on this set, open carrier, and who did the actual gear swap?

..Sometimes it's a simple mistake of forgetting to clean the plug while other times it could be a bad or slightly off gear install...Perhaps no friction modifier (if it is an LSD) or contamination that was left in the axle..

It has a limited slip, and I did the swap, done them before, had a good pattern and all in spec. There maybe 1000 miles on gear since I installed them, I dont know how many are actualy on the gears themself, I purchased them used. But I dont remember if I cleaned the plug from before, I cleaned the whole housing. I am using royal purple 75w 140w

..A picture is worth a thousand words..

..A small amount of small particulates and possibly a sludgy look should be acceptable..

..Shavings and chips the size of sand or larger would be a concern but then again that's if you cleaned the plug.

.Smear the plug contents on a soft white cloth like a diaper and take a picture of it..

..In the meantime I would completely drain it, fill it back up with normal costing gear fluid and friction modifier, run it for another 500 miles and check it again..That may supply you with a few more answers..

..That's what I would do..

Cant take a pic, I alreadu cleaned it off. But I will check it again in a day or two. I am gona drain and refill after I see how it looks after I cleaned it, since I dont remember if I cleaned it on install
