Just to let you all know don't go four wheelin with michelins. I went the other day and had a STICK!!! Yes i said stick, a little on at that, not even 3/8's of an inch in diameter. It stuck in my sidewall and cause a slow leak. I drove it to the local tire store and had them check it out and they couldn't fix it. So now i have a new tire!!!! What a waist of money. Any recomendations on new tires that have good side walls??
the BFG AT KO is the way to go IMO, but, ya, the michelin LTXs aren't for offroading really.. they might say mud and snow.. but they don't really mean it I have a set on my mountaineer, they are very nice on the highway. If you want to stick with michelin, I've heard the Michelin LTX ATs are really nice, and they look pretty good too
Agree with the BFG All-Terrains..you want sidewall thats your tire..nothing else will do.
I have the Michelin LTX M/S and they are awesome on snow, rain, in the dry and even off road to a degree(the M/S is for Mud and snow..but in light terms.) but your problem isnt the tire..its the terrain...lotsa those tires..even the Michelins, are made for street drivers and have to sacrifice what you were needing (sidewall protection) for comfort...the stiffer sidewall on the BFG AT makes for a stiffer ride...not to say its bad, just the majority of SUV buyers would not like it much.
You want a good sidewall..get the BFGs..no question.

I have to disagree. My dad had these tires on his trooper and they lasted WELL over 70k. He also went wheeling with them when they were pretty much bald without a problem. Now granted these are not off-roading tires. If you want something thats not going to get cut up like that you need to look into bias-ply I belive. Heck I have a large number of chunks tore out of my BFG Muds and I am not overly impresed with the material of them even. But they still hold air so thats good.

The LTX ATs and LTX M/S are made of the same construction, only the tread pattern is different. I have the LTX ATs on my '97 and love them. There are very few tires that offer sidewall protection that would have withstood the stick. The BFG TA KO is well known for its sidewall protection. It has 3 plys vs. the more common 2 ply.
a friend of mine has the ATS on his Z71.. they look more aggressive than the M/S, would you say they have the same ride and all? in around 35k miles I may need a new set
