1995 expo sport
Hey everyone
I was looking for some insight or suggestions on how i should go about building my newly acquired 95 expo sport into a rig that can actually handle some whoops in the dunes. I'm not looking for some crazy engineered long travel buggy, just a decent setup so I can do more than 2 mph over small bumps . The kicker is I have to keep the 4wd. I actually use the 4wd in the sand so its a necessity. I bought this thing with the intention of chopping the roof off and its a full time toy but i would still like to do it for relatively cheap.

i was looking at the FOA 2.0 with remote reservoirs but how long should I go?
run a block in the rear or add leafs? currently there is only mono leaf and im worried it will start to be a little stiff once I start adding leafs
torsion twist? new torsion keys? or ditch the front entirely and fab up coil overs?
future plans do include an interior cage

Thank you in advance

here she is in stock form

Got the front all figured out. I'll be waiting until the beginning of the year to pop on the first stage of the build.

What did you come up with on the front?

2.5" x 12 FOA coil overs

I still have a lot of questions but I'll cross that bridge one they are on. Not sure what route I'm going to go for the rear. I have twins due any day now so my next dune rip won't be for another 6 months

I'd go with 8's, 12's are way too long. You'll never use the entire stroke. Are you going with custom arms? I ask because in order to use coilovers on the facttory arms, it puts a crazy angle on the shocks.

Let me know if you have any questions. I've already built a 96 2wd Explorer with a long travel kit in front, Deavers out back, and fiberglass front and rear.

exactly my concern. I dont understand how a 12" shock was supposed to work with stock arms unless I do the mounts 6" above the hood. I cant wrap my head around it! I'm worried about the angles of everything. FOA was the ONLY company to even provide any sort of insight so I was ready to give them the buisness and I would figure it out when it got here.

Its taken me about an hour to write this as I am thinking everything through logically. I think what makes the most sense for me budget wise right now, is to keep stock arms. I don't want to have to find extended axles and all that. My main concern is to be able to go a tad faster over bumps, not 100mph constantly through the desert. ill build that rig when my kid is older and can rally with me

Ya the trouble is the stock arms and the shock angle you have to use to mount them, it's not good.
The guys at FOA are really nice. I'm there almost once a week.
