Milemarker Hydraulic Winch

In case anyones interested, curious, or has any comments I just got done installing my new hyd winch. I took pics so if Rick is interested we can do an install writeup when the pics get developed.

In an attempt to keep my approach angle as close to where it was I fabbed my own brackets and put it in behind the bumper instead of hanging it on a brush guard. I ended up only extending the bumper out 2.5 inches from factory.

It's a milemarker 9000# 2 speed. So far I like it. It has no problem dragging the truck with all the brakes locked up, so it should work fine in a bad stuck.

Hey Kampy,
What year Explorer do you have and I sure would like to see pictures of your set up. Did you use the stock power steering pump or did you get a AGR? I'm thinking about a Mile Marker also, so any other info you could share would be appreciated.

How much did it cost ya? I know that the advertised prices are comparable to electric until you add in the solenoid package ($200.+). I'm planning on purchasing an upgraded (1.8hp to the 3.8hp motor) REP8000. I know that the REPs are an old model, but you can't beat the price. Also, you had the right idea by placing the winch behind the bump to save on the Approach angle. I'm looking forward to seeing how you did it.

Ray, My explorer is a 90, it's better known to you guys as a sport trac prototype (ranger). I'm still using the stock pump but will upgrade to an AGR unit as soon as its feasible. The pics will be available as soon as I get the rest of the film used up.

Rocky, it cost $729 plus $55 shipping from Idaho to Illinois, total of $784 on my front porch. The winch came with a motor mounted solenoid/valve pack. The ones with the remote mounted valves are more expensive, I'm not sure why. I didn't even consider an electric winch this time cause they won't live long with long pulls (300 - 500 ft)through knee deep mud or hood high snow and it's a serious pain in the butt to get the elec system set up properly on a ranger/explorer platform. There just isn't enough room. Plus a good 250 or 270 amp alternator is about $1000 bucks and won't bolt to the engine without alot of fab work. Electric winches work fine out in the rocks where alot of times you only need help for 5 - 15 feet but they just don't get it on a long pull through a slop hole.

Orange Trail Kampy?

Looks like you were serious saying you'll get winch before tackling this orange trail in Attica. Looks nice. I hope you won't have to use it though.

That is awesome. You can't really even tell that the winch is there unless you are looking for it.

Are you gonna put any shielding up for the hoses? I ask because they look kind of exposed underneath like that.

When I decide to get a winch, would you mind installing it for me? hehe
