Hey I'm still looking for an explorer but I need some more info to narrow down my search. If anyone could answer these questions that would be awesome!

1) Do 91-94's come with those auto dimming mirrors in the newer ones, and do they have the north south east west indicator on it, as well as all those other little gadgets attached to the mirror?

2) When was the first year those lights on the bottom of the side mirrors came standard?

3) What does the Eddie Bauer have that the XLT doesn't, and what does the Limited have that the Eddie Bauer doesnt? (94, 95 and up)

4) Did any explorers come with a black or dark grey interior, or is it all tan/light grey?

5) I still have some riceboy left in me, are there clear front corner lights available for the 91-94's?

6) Are the 91-94 hubs the same lug pattern as the 95+'s?

7) Which models have dual power front buckets? (95 and up)

8) Can the back seat be removed, or folded down in any way?

9) Has anyone painted their Explorer, and if so how much was it?

Thanks!!

good call, I should've known that.

no problem. many of your questions are frequently asked.

I have a blue interior (XLT) and I bought the front clears off of eBay.

Nope, sorry

Don't know. '95 maybe?

The only thing the Eddie Bauer edition has is the Eddie Bauer logo and some touch-ups on the looks. Limited actually has vehicular changes, but I am not entirely sure what they are.

Umm, I've only ever seen tan/light grey. But OK89 and mahieber both said some other colors, so I'd take their word on it.

Yep, if you look hard enough.

I believe so. OK89 already said yes, so I'd go with that answer.

I'd tell you, but I'd have to kill you. (I don't know)

Seats fold down all the way. Actually, they should fold down all the way, but mine don't go all the way for some reason.

Many people have painted their Exs. I don't remember how much it cost off the top of my head though.

price of a paint job veries. It depends on where you get it done, what kind of paint is used, what kind of prep work is done, if there is a clearcoat, two-tone, etc...

The search can be a pain sometimes. So many topics and lots of answers, but they can be tough to find.

So:
1. My mom's '94 has an auto dimming mirror and auto headlamps. My '92 doesn't have it though. I'm not sure if it was offered before '94.

2. I believe it was after the design change...probably '95 or '96 and newer.

3. The Eddie Bauer you're paying for the "special" edition name, and not really any extra's. My '92 xlt had everything the eddie bauer model had on it, except the pinstriping. The Limited editions usually had a V8 in them...sports are two doors and the XLT comes with the most variety. You can get them very basic...cloth interior not too many extras or very nice inside, with leather, upgraded stereo, moonroof, etc.

4. All I've ever seen is tan/biege (my '92, '97 and mom's '94), light grey (ex girlfriends '00), this horrible shade of blue ('96 that was offered to me very cheaply.) It reminded me of the old blue pinto interiors.

5. I believe you can get clears for the front on '94 and older. I know you can for models '95 and newer. You can get clear tail-light assembly's for '98 and newer.

6. Same patterns

7. Just depends...xlt's and eddie bauer's should all have dual power seats, but it' a guessing game at times. Ford rolls hundreds of different variations off the lines here in Louisville everyday.

8. Back seat is split...60/40 and both sides fold down...

9. Paint jobs and price are one major thing where you get what you pay for. Don't ever go to Macco or someplace like that. I've rebuilt several vehicles and I feel that anything less than $800 to $1,000 for a complete paint job is not going to be worth the time or effort.

Hit me up if you have any other questions. I'm always online...unless of course I'm working on one of the explorers. If you're buying one, be prepared to spend some money here and there. They are excellent vehicles, but they can be tempermental and require special care. Mainly with the braking systems (pre '95) and transmissions.

cool..you guys rock. this board is so different than the honda board I moderate..since I'm guessing the average age here is higher than the honda board, where the average is 17-20..the difference in maturity shows for sure. this board is way more helpful.

I'll answer only the ones I am sure about....that being 1991-1994 questions.

1.I beleive only 1994 Limiteds came with this feature, and maybe some tricked out Eddie Bauers.

3.Eddie Bauer has a color scheme to it- Tan on the lower body on all colors. It has special Eddie bauer seats and most of the XLT options were standard.
Limited added a special grill, front facia, different bumpers, and special trim. They also have special seats, almost all explorer options were standard(except sunroof).

4.1991-1992 Came in four colors- Light gray,Blue, Tan, and Red.
1992-2002 No red offered. All others continued until at least 1996.

The other ones have been answered already.

There is an "Age Group" thread in the polls, and you can find the average age there. lol

But yes this board is different then most other boards. I think alot of it has to do with how Rick and the moderators control it. I say Hats Off to the Moderators.

You sure? I've never seen a '94 with the fancy mirror unless it was aftermarket.

Well. If you say so. But I've never seen them

the lights under the side mirrors are called "puddle lamps" they are not standard at least not as of 99. only ones i saw with them had the keyless entry as well and some form of convience group type stuff (the electrodimmingmagnofancy mirror, overhead console, etc..)
in newer models.. back seat splits 50/50.. at least mine does. maybe that's a sport thing. ive never even been in a 4dr!
someone correct me if im wrong

The Eddie Bauer package is not just a paint scheme on 95+ Explorers. They get (on top of what an XLT gets) specific seats(with electric bolsters), digital climate controls, the famous trip computer, voice recognition cellular phone, auto dim mirror, auto headlights, 16 inch wheels(4x4 only, available on sport, not on Limited) and alot of other stuff. I think the only option you could get on 95-98 Limited's that you couldn't on the EB is memory seats. They give up the bolsters on the Limited's though. You can get an air suspension also(not on XLT). I think the JBL system w/ sub was only offered on Limited and EB models. If you get an Explorer and plan to upgrade the stereo system, don't get one with the JBL. They are toooo much trouble.

4 doors get a 60/40 rear seat and sports get a 50/50--seats do not remove (without removing bolts)

no dark grey or black (except on newer Sports)

If the Explorer has power driver seat, the passenger is power also. The passenger seat on mine doesn't have power bolsters like the driver's does

Leather is a no-cost option on Eddie Bauers.

Auto-dim mirror was available on 94 Limited

This is not true my XLT has power lumbar support on both drivers and passengers seats but everything else on my passenger seat is manual whereas the only manual thing on my drivers seat is (errr was, now its broken) the recline lever.

Question 4

You can get a Eddie B with a dark green leather interior, mine has it

Yep, sure thing. I've been driving her exp. for about the past month (til my '97 is complete) and it's got the autodimming mirror/auto headlight feature. It's original equipment.
