I changed spark plugs and wires and now have a misfire. I changed plugs and wires back and still have misfire in 5. check engine light is on with code showing misfire in 5. any help will help!
If it didn't misfire before you changed the plugs/wires and still have it after you put the old stuff back on then you must have an issue at the coil. You're getting a P0305 code or what?
Sure you're getting good contact on the coil? Crack a coil terminal? You put everything back original, it didn't miss before, coil. Didn't accidentally knock an injector connector off of #5 did you? Don't see what else it could be...........
Yeah as ncranchero eluded to there are only a few things that can cause the misfire.
Bad plug..
Bad Wire...
Bad Coil Pack...
bad or disconnected fuel injector...
Mechanical problem (like no compression) this is highly unlikely...
I would double check the connector on the coil pack for cyl 5 be sure to clean out any old dielectric grease and replace it with fresh stuff. Make sure there was no corrosion on the connector. Also check the main connector from the computer to the coil pack, Clean it and reinstall with good quality dielectric grease (tune up grease). Check the connector on the cyl 5 injector to make sure it is not dirty or corroded. Use CO Contact cleaner to clean all electrical connections followed by a healthy dose of dielectric grease.
You can also test the resistance of the coil pack to see if cyl 5 is blown.
