Well here we go again...in some of my previous posts i complained about codes..p0171 and p0174 and marble sounds. Well it seems that the errors went away with a new mass air flow sensor and the marble sounds came back again after changing the oil. I used mobile synthetic 5-20 like i have in the past. I just ran seafoam and it helps alot but the sounds always come back. My new issue now is that i get a miss feeling when i drive for the first 20-30 minutes. If i shut it off on the side of the road for about 15 minutes and wait the problem will go away but what the hell can this be? I have ownerd the truck for about 7 months and i never had this issue before. Last time the truck did it i left it running and i tapped on everything i could under the hood. What i mean is the IAC, the mass, the plug wires anything that i think can be causing it. I also thought it might be the fuel pump but i dont know. I have encoutnered this issue with a quarter of a tank and a full tank of gas. The tune up was done by previous owner. He has autolite plugs and i am not sure of the type of wires. Maybe a plug is bad? I also noticed that i unplugged the throttle poistion sensor and it did nothing was the truck suppose to do somthing maybe stall? Need help on this.

thanks

those autolite plugs could very well be your problem, switch back to motorcraft plugs

Just ordered them from summit racing, will get them tomorrow. Plugs and wires. Cant wait.

thanks

Autolite plugs are Motorcraft plugs. That's who makes them.

WOW i didnt know that. O well for $3.85 a plug im not going to complain.

thanks

If it feels like it's missing when you're driving have you considered a fuel filter? Change that before you change the fuel pump.

Yes fuel filter was the first thing i change with a new air filter. So that didnt help.

That is not correct! Motorcraft is a Ford product. Autolite is owned by Allied Signal which also owns FRAM and Bendix. Honeywell has recently bought out Allied Signal, they are big in aerospace and HVAC products.

Have you tried a different oil? My truck was considerably noisier with mobil1 5w30 than with Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 I am using now. Why are you using 5w20 instead of 5w30?.

Does it seem like the noise is back after the truck is thorougly warmed up or immediately?

You can try an Auto-RX treatment in your oil if you feel your lifters are clogged or something.

Then yes, I would try plugs and plug wires next. And make sure you check the gap, although they say "regapped" check em anyway, they're always off.

I know Motorcraft is a Ford product but I don't think Motorcraft makes everything licensed under their name? If they made their own sparkplugs I would think they would be $20 a piece because they don't sell enough of them to get a decent price on them.

From what i was told 5W20 is the weight that i am suppose to use that ford recommends and uses. The noise came RIGHT back after i started it the first time. I thought i had it gone with all the seafoam i have used. I am going to change out the plugs and wires once i get them tomorrow and do another seafoam run. I was told that the ford dealer has something that they run through it. Motorsport makes it and it is especially for this sound. I think im going to take a ride to the dealer and see what they have. I am up to anything right now.

Dont get me wrong besides this noice and miss the truck is great over all. looks great. It runs good when it wants to that is why i think i just need to change a few more parts and see from there. I plan on doing the wires and plugs then take a chance and do the manifold gaskets. If that doesnt work fuel pump. IF that doesnt work its gone. FOR SALE. We will just have to see.

maybe cam chains?

hmm...

can you pinpoint the noise, back or front of engine, left or right?

Good luck.

Good luck.

The motor is a OHV not SOHC. I was told the SOHC have the cam chain issues not OHV which is what i have. I only have 103K miles.

That may be the case but they don't come from the Autolite factory. My dad retired from the Autolite spark plug factory in Fostoria Ohio and they make only there brand.

How long ago was that?

^^^^I agree ^^^^.

Try some regular Dino for your test. Pennzoil 5w30 should be very cheap. See how she runs then.

You sure about that?
