Missing 4x4 computer?

I just bought a 94 Ranger XLT. It is an extended cab ,and the guy I bought it from said that the relay box that controls the 4x4 went bad. He said he had taken it out to try and find another one, and it went behind the fold down seat on the drivers side of the truck. I looked back there today , and found 3 plugs from the wiring harness laying in the mount for this "box". What is this thing and how can I get another one? Would it be easier/cheaper to get a manual shift transfer case? Is there a manual transfer case that would bolt up to it? Is this to many questions? lol

welcome to the site, it would be cheaper to get the module. the manual will swap in though, several have opted to do that swap

MY ISP changed how I store pictures online, as soon as I figure out how to display the pictures here I will do it. Anyone know what this modules nomenclature is? Part Number etc? Also I saw a 93 Ranger yesterday with a manual transfer case in it. WOuld that be a straight bolt in swap into my 94 model?

...cool truck...if the motor (4.0), trans (auto), and tc(elect) are the same it should be no problem...

The BW1354 was made in manual and electric shift versions and they will interchange. Yours had the 1354 electric. Often the hardest parts to find in a junkyard for a manual conversion are the manual shifter, linkage, floor plate and boot.

It is possible that the original control module for your electric case was bad. However, a non-shifting electric case is often misdiagnosed as a bad module when the real problem is in the shift motor/encoder on the case.

...doh...i edited my entry, lol...it shouldn't be that much for the module swap but as rwensig mentioned, it is usually a t/c shift motor problem which is an easier fix most of the time...
