Looking for a new cruise director
As Rick mentioned, would any of the regulars be willing to step up and coordinate this year's run? I figure that I have only a 50-50 chance of making it this year. I'll be happy to help, but if I cannot even make it, maybe someone else should take the reins and do it this year. I told Rick that I would if no one else will, but I am more than willing to pass the torch to someone else this year.
Rick, if you don't take deposits, we'll have to assume only about 50-60% of those who register will actually come, and so make dinner reservation and trailrun plans accordingly. That deposit really helped but I know it was a pain to mess with.
If someone is interested in coordinating the event but is hesitant concerning particulars, I'll help in anyway I can. I plan to compile a list of the Moab trails I have personally run - I think it's somewhere around two dozen of them - and be available to help with scheduling, timing, minimum vehicle requirements to successfully run certain trails, etc. I'll post it here within the week, and that should also help those of you who haven't been before plan for your trip. And to maybe give you some incentive to add another mod or two so you can be able to run a certain trail
If you have not been before, order the Charles Wells book right now and read it. It will get you excited about your upcoming adventure and you will find certain trails in the book that appeal to you and that you will want to run. Pretty soon people will want to start choosing trails to run and you will want to know what they are talking about and be able to offer your own suggestions and wishes.
Concerning the Canyonlands RV park, I believe that most wanted to stay in hotels and airconditioned cabins during a June run - who wants to camp in a tent when it's 95 degrees at night? But in October the weather will be perfect for camping, and that campground is excellent and right in the middle of town.
