claims to give 4-7 mpg and up to 60 hp increase - all while lowering CO emissions by 25-40%

I don't buy it - call me skeptical.

If all it took was reprogramming the ECU, why wouldn't Ford have just done this at the plant then? Can you image an Explorer with 350 hp getting 30MPG? They'd sell more than they could ever make.

Money back guarantee it says. I guess it can't hurt to try it, or can it? Is it possible to kill the ECU w/ something like this? I would like to see some install instructions ahead of time though.

Absolutely a scam. Most stuff like that just fools the MAF into thinking there is more air coming into the motor or fools the IAT into thinking the motor is still cold, so it increases the fuel flow.

Scam, your paying all that money for a 5 cent resistor from radioshack. Does nothing. I'd wait until somebody has done the ecu for this truck with SCT, which is the best for Fords, and even then it will be nowhere near 350hp... only engines that make big gains like that are forced induction where in addition to other stuff the boost is upped.

I like this part of their webpage:

MSRP$399.99
Your Price: $69.00

WOW, What a great price reduction!!!! We should all group buy!!! NOT.

That is funny! I had a chip in my f150, really no mileage gain, very little HP gain, not even worth a group buy, but wait pay 19.99 today, and we will sip two for the price if one, plus if you act now will ship you the free Ronko dicer! Not!

What chip? I've used 5 Star on an F-150 and it was night and day better, response, power etc, and gained 2mpg highway on top of the other mods, about 1 mpg better city hand calculated and that's with having more of a lead foot then before lol. You wouldn't believe how quick the 5.0 F-150's can be with a tune and few mods. Have a custom SCT tune on the Mountaineer, again night and day better then stock.

Lot of people just buy a chip/tuner and use the stock crap file, which is why they see no gains. Need to be dyno tuned locally, or a shop that can write a custom tune and email... like 5 star for the F-150's.

Don't think the Explorers (this gen) will see anything, even though this engine has been tuned with SCT in other lines, but the ECU is different on Ex and they pry don't see any or near enough demand for them to crack and start tuning it.

DO NOT BUY!

Definitely a scam. I hope some company comes out with something. I had a Diablosport Predator for my SRT-8, even the canned tunes really made a difference.

I realize that the market might not be there but it still would nice to have the option to buy something.

I had a Roush chip, 1st gen. It was snapper, but really very little mpg gain, it did with tuning help the towing, with better shift points, and it did provide better troque Just the cost vs gain was not worth it. Not saying chips would not help

I second that

Had the Diablo Sport Predator Tuner for my 07 Yukon Denali and it changed the truck. Lower end torque definitely better and shift points were much tighter. I emailed them and they said nothing in the works for our trucks yet.

Can't an increased fuel/air mixture (open loop) burn out the cat converter too? Seems risky.

Yep..and can damage the cylinder walls as well if you leave unburned fuel in the cylinders.

There are plenty of chips/tuners/tuning software out there that work quite well (Diablo, Banks, Superchip, Sniper, SCT, etc.) when used properly. However, any of the ones that offer huge gains for minimal money are going to be scams. If it were that easy with no side effects, the vehicles would come tuned from the factory that way.
