Just got my wife a 2010 4.0L Eddie Bauer and am looking to start modding it.

Being searching through the forums and see that there is no intake available so going to build my own like others have done using the Spectre 9405 etc..

To those who have done this have you removed your lower half of the air box or just rested the element on it? Is a tune recommended at the same time as the intake install?

Thanks in advance.

I just took the top off of mine, the filter fit in the box perfectly, and I also wanted to try to suck as little air from the engine compartment as possible. I used mine without a chip for two months and It ran way better than stock, big difference with mpg's too.

Us Gen 4 owners could use a good step by step for exactly our trucks and some actual results on MPG increase to many places on this forum with scattered to no info.

check out the " stage 2 intake " write up i did for the 3rd gen forum... parts required are the same...

If you don't want to fabricate you own, go ahead and get the 04-05 For Explorer V8 air intake kit from K&N. That is what I did for my 4.0 and it works great, check out the postings on the thread titled Air Intake for V6?

Just finished it last night. Looks pretty good but triggers a SES light for a lean condition. I guess now I will need a tune...
