Please help!!!

I've got a black 93 Explorer Sport that I cannot replace anytime soon.

It's in good condition - a little rust which I can take care of myself.

I can't replace it, but I really need to make this thing a little more 'modern' looking!!! or at least cleaner!!

*************
Does anyone know of good suppliers, kits, ideas, upgrade examples for this Explorer year?? or upgrades in general!!!!!!
*************

Any info would be greatly appreciated. I've got to get this vehicle into a presentable state!!!

Please Help!!!

You can get a 1995+ front end (fenders, grille, hood) like Ricks truck
http://www.explorer4x4.com/tech_transform.html

There are also many, many engine upgrades you can do; all you need to do is use the search function.

I'm not sure if you are talking about appearance or performance.

Thanks a million!

Thanks a million for the URL about a new grill/fenders/hood!!

That's great! I'm looking to change the apperance right now. -- worry about performance later!!!

Thanks again! I find good URLs are sometimes hard to find!!!

You could also put on a lift gate from a '95-'97. You would have to change the tail lights too

Thanks for your reply.

I'm not sure what a "lift gate" is right now, but I'll find out.
Is that just the back 'door'?...
Is this something you did or have seen done?

Thanks,
PJ

I'd change lift gates to 95-97 and tail lights, don't just go to the 95-97 front end though, get the 95-97 fender conversion and do the mountaineer front end 2001 like me.

add wheels and tires and a new dash and your set

sounds great..

Hi,
newbie questions again (sry), but the 95-97 fender conversion - From Who?
Are the 95-97 fender conversion and front end from "mountaineer"?

Do you have any pictures of your explorer?
Where did you get all the parts?...

Thanks,
PJ

the front fender conversion can be done with junkyard parts, and so can the mountaineer conversion.

Essentially if you want to do this you'd have to find a 95-97 explorer or mountaineer in a junkyard and take the front fenders, and the rear lift gate. then you'd have to find a 99-01 mountaineer and take the header panel, grille, head lamps, and turn signals, and front bumper (my bumper is my own creation, but just the stock mountie one owuld look good)

you'd have a really cool truck, being that the mountaineer was never available in a 2 door, and it woudl make it look 10 years newer.

sorry, yes the rear lift gate is the rear door. it would allow you to use the newer style tail lights, the square ones on your truck really date it.

Switchin to the newer taillights isn't just a straight swap though is it Expo?? isn't there some fabbing involved?

Cool, but difficulty level?

Ahhh, now I understand what you mean by Mountaineer..!

Thanks for elaborating. Your truck looks great!

One question. I'm generally good with tools, but I don't have a welder..
Did you have to make any mods to the explorer or 'make' parts to get the Mountaineer front end to fit?.. I would assume that you would.

And for the lift gate - would you have to cut/weld some metal back there?..

Thanks again,
PJ

for the money it is gonna take to do that conversion and then paint everything so it is one color you could probably sell your ex and buy a newer one (w/ the more "modern" look) that would have the same milage...(asuming your ex is of higher milage already).

these conversions aren't exactly the cheapest things to do and you won't make your money back from what you put in it when/if you re-sell

if you are just chasing a "modern" look opposed to a "custom" look it may be something to think about.

yes. I thought I was doomed to a 1st gen!.

How "custom" can you get besides changing the rims?
