hey guys i've got a 96 Xplorer sport 2wd,4.0 ohv, 5speed manual, just wondering what mods you guys are doin to get the top performance and hp out of these engines, mine seems pretty weak, i'm running 33's with a 4.56 gearing and it still seems pretty powerless, i've eliminated the air box and opened up the exhaust, already, what else could i do to give it some moer ponies. also my truck runs fine but i haven't changed the spark plugs in about 30,000 miles would changing these help any with performance? can an exhuast leak also hinder performance? because i've got a lil one.

Intake, exhaust, chip / tuner.
That is the most common performance mods. A search will yield more details

i just emailed bama chips to see what they have to offer for my setup, has anyone got a installed one of these chips/flashers in a x with a manual tranny? if so what results did you get in performance?

well, with a manual tranny the results will not be as apparent.

I think briwayjones has a chip with his manual tranny. Hunt him down. He is a cool guy.

What about synthetic fluids and a tune up (wires, plugs).

what type of wires and plugs si everyone using and getting nice results with?

oh and do you guys think i should try some of that purple power oil or is just regular synthetic just as good?

purple power oil? Is that Roayl Purples motor oil? I'm sure I will hear some greif about this, but all synthetics are the same. Theres regular motor oil, semi-synthetic, fully-synthetic. Choose to your likings.

yea its royal purple but you always hear that its suppost to give your engine more hp so i call it purple power lol, but i don't know of anyone using it to actually back up what the comercials say so i don't know. as for plugs and wires does a certain brand make more of a difference? what are you guys running and having success with

Synthetic fluids are always a prudent move.

Wires and plugs will help only if the ones you have are worn out.

No ,magic there. A high quality synthetic such as Amsoil or Mobil 1 is just as good or maybe better.
