Someone posted before about basically tightning up their throttle cable for a cheap thrill ( slight horspower gain) but he was talking about a 1/2 ton I think. well, got bored and checked mine out by putting a block on the go-pedal made sure it was to the floor checked under the hood and sure enough, it wasnt reaching full WOT and as all you computer guys know that WOT tells the engine to forget emmistions, you want power now! to pass or what not. Anyway, to test yours just peek under the dash and pull TOWARD you on the pedal, if there is more then say 1/2 inch of space between the cable stop and the spring retainer you might not be getting all the way to WOT ( look for yourself if your dont belive me ) Anyway, I allso have the POS automatic and there is a second smaller cable next to the throttle cable and it wasnt reaching real great either so I put two of the smallest hose clamps I could find on both cables and I have noticed very significant accecleration nothing like adding a blower but better. And with the shift down cable adjusted it down shifts a lot faster and passing is way bettter. I recomend you all check to see if your have a simialer dilemea.

It doesn't give you any power gain, only quicker throttle response. That cable slack is there for a reason.

Why is there slack there? Coudl you get pictures of this "slack?"

What might the reason be?

Thanks

BS thats why there are springs at either end of the cable, with mine I just adjusted it so that with the pedal to the floor the throttle plate stop would actually touch, gurenteeing that I achive WOT as apposed to the 1/4 space between the stop and the plate.

Call it whatever you want, but the tricks been done many times. You are not getting any power gain, only better throttle response.

It's there for safety reasons, nothing to do with emissions. People who aren't used to the vehicle would rearend someone if the throttle response is too quick.

bassicaly, if your cable has "stretched" and you have slack, you might not be opening your throttle plate all the way when you floor your gas pedal. Simply putting in some sort of spacer (hose clamp, tie strap) around the slack in the cable will ensure you open your throttle plate all the way when you floor the gas pedal. No actual hp gains, its just that now you can actually use all the power in your engine. :)

I have read these posts a bunch but i still dont get what you mean to just liek zap strap it to get rid of the slack. can someone show me a picture? thx

search for throttle cable mod
someone posted a picture :)

I'll try to get a pic for you.

It just makes the trottle respond better, like in a car. Made my Ex respond just like an '02 Altima!

where is that? i cannot figure it out. is it upside down? where is the steeroing column?

The pic is sorta at a weird angle. Get on your back (no jokes) on the drivers side floor and look up where your pedals are. At the very top of the gas pedal you will see a spring. Push the gas pedal to the floor (don't do this with the engine running!) and then pull it to the opposite direction. You'll see that the cable has some slack in it at the very top of the pedal. Fold the end of the cable over and zip-ty it to the spring. That's the way I did it, seems to be the easiest way.

OK, I need some schooling here.

So, you get better throttle response because your air intake is bigger than it was before the mod. Bringing in more air, mixing with more fuel, more mixture to burn, you get more power.

So I am very confused on how you can open your butterfly valve more than previously, but not get any power gain. Is the butterfly open less than 100% giving the engine as much air as it can take? I doubt it. Isn't this the whole point of everyone getting a more free flowing intake and bigger TBs?

IMO, if you are gaining an improvement in throttle response, that is because you are bringing in more air. How can this increase in air not lead to power gain?

Robb:confused:

Rob,

You might have slight HP gains at WOT. You see, with regular driving, the butterfly valve is not going to be all the way open, even with the trottle cable mod. But, you will get better response.

ah OK, so it is more of a play on words. For normal driving, there would be no need to go WOT except on acceleration. But, if you felt like racing down the strip and go as wide open as you could, there would be a long term power gain from the cable mod (more open butterfly).

lol, guys guys guys... you're making it too confusing!!!!!
as time goes on, or if it just wasn't fitted right from factory, your throttle cable may have some slack between the pedal and the throttle body. because of this slack, when you push your pedal down all the way to the floor, your throttle body does not open all the way. if you tighten up that slack, then your throttle body will open as soon as you hit the pedal, and if you press it to the floor, then it will open your throttle body all the way. It doesn't give you horse power, it just allows you to actually use all the hp you already had.

Is there any worries for doing this if you go in the mud alot?
