I got 92 and on the 3rd the starter started making noise. No big deal easy fix right. Well on the next day the 4th was driving and i heard a noise sounded like rod knock then it wen't away then came back. So i parked it and was going to trailer it so it didn't blow all the way. Then yesterday wen't to pick it up with trailer and starter didn't grind as bad as it did on the 3rd-4th. Then other thing is it wasn't knocking at all ran perfect. So thought screw it jsut drive it home. On way home it just died and tried to start it and the starter won't engage. Wierd thing is it never knocked again. Has anybody had this happen to them before? I hate to put a starter in just to find the motor is blown. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance

That is difficult to follow...

Broken/cracked flex plate?

I was thinking that last night. I turned the engine by hand and the starter still wont grab. Should i take the starter out and bench test it?

If the engine turns over by hand it isn't blown. I'd start by testing to make sure the starter is getting power when you hit the key. Check all the connections to be sure they are tight and while you are down there check the starter its self to be sure it is good and tight. If everything checks out, pull the starter and have it tested.

the starter turns when i hit the key. but now what is wierd i wen't out today and the battery is dead i have never had a issue with battery at all. I got a yellow top optima and it has worked great and sat for months with out losing a charge. now it's dead won't power on anything. I must have a short or bad ground then right?

It was a broken fly wheel it broke all the way around.
