I may be forced into putting a different motor into my ex. The 4.0L SOHC in my 2000 was running strong but rattling so I had a mechanic I know pull the engine to do the timing chains/guides/etc. That was 5 months ago. I've been driving his POS truck since then just so I can get to work. Once the timing had been done it never ran properly. I know for a fact he messed up the timing at first but he's sure it didn't damage any valves and that isn't the issue. Now he's taken it to a Ford tech (he's a dodge tech) and this guy replaced intake gaskets. Still not any better. So now he's come up with the plan that we find a used engine and put it in, and split the cost 60/40. Blah blah blah whatever that's the back story...
I found a 4.0 SOHC out of a 05 sport trac. I'm just wondering if anyone knows if this engine will crossover nicely? And the engine from 05 shouldn't have any of the pesky timing issues the older ones do. Though I'm thinking it's best to just pull the new timing parts off old motor and put them on the replacement one.
