replace your intake gaskets.

Why?

replace your intake gaskets.

Why would replacing the intake gaskets make a difference in the accumulation on the upper intake manifold and back of the throttle plate? Which intake gaskets are you referring to?

How many miles does your X have on it? This is common on higher mileage engines. The first thing you need to do is check your PCV valve and make sure it isn't plugged. The oil is from the PCV system and if you have never cleaned the intake (try searching SEA FOAM) the oil film from the crankcase venting will build up making a mess inside the plenum. If, after checking the PCV valve and cleaning the intake plenum, the oil build up returns rather quickly, you might start thinking about a rebuild.

well my 4.0 has over 400 thousand on it with no rebuild to motor or tranny(thats pretty good in my book.) but still runs good. theres also a pipe coming off the exaust manifold and into this little round thing and then it goes back into the intake and makes a 90' turn and faces the throttle body. but it has rust all over it and my motor has been sucking it in for no telling how long. where is the pcv valve at and what does it do?
