2008 Ford Ranger
Hi everbody I am new to this site so not to sure where to make my first post. I have a 2008 Ford Ranger and my 4x4H does not work but 2H and 4L work fine. Now I have been to our Ford dealership and they told me it is the motor on the transfer case. Is this normal.

Is what (this) normal? That the dealer says it is the shift drive motor? imp

drive motor

I should have said the dealer thinks it is the drive motor. They have never taken it off to check for sure.

If the drive motor is shifting between 2H and 4L, it is probably working OK. There are contacts ( a switch, if you will) which are closed and opened as the motor moves the shifter through it's travel. Likely, those contacts are maladjusted, or bad, preventing the motor from stopping at 4H. Replacing the drive mechanism (motor included) will likely resolve the problem, I would say, but please be aware, diagnosing these things with only limited awareness of exactly how/why the trouble symptoms are occurring is "iffy". imp
