Just thought I would put this post up on my experience on replacing the shift Motor on the T-Case of a 91 Ford Explorer. First off, unless you have a crap load of money and don't care about price don't buy this part from FORD!!! They want $480 something for this little motor. I found it at Car Quest for $124 plus tax. When installing the motor,(which is really easy 30min) FIRST, you will have to pull out the 3 wires from the old motors wire harness. These 3 wires,(Brown, Green, and Blue) are connected to the T-Case. To do this, First, pull out the little RED holding plug in the center of Wire Harness. To do this I used a little Nut Pick that comes with most nut cracker sets,(Don't tell the Wife :P). Next I used that same pick to pull back the little plastic price that holds the Wire Pins in place and with the end of my ratchet pushed it out, then pulled the rest of the wire and pin on out with my fingers. Next was the easy part taking off the Wire harness holding bracket, (Two bottom Bolts). Then the rest of the other Bolts(One on top of Motor and other on the Left side). Now the Motor should come off with a little tug. WARNIG>> (Make sure you are in 2WD before starting this project!!!) With that in mind the new motor is already set on 2WD and should slip right on. Also Before placing the NEW Motor on you may want to put on some liquid gasket where it connects to the T-Case. This will keep any moisture out. Now at this point I had to get out my grinder and modify that Wire harness bracket. The new motor was slightly different then the old one where this Wire harness bracket goes on. Again really simple. Now once that is done and fitting nicely replace all bolts and tighten them up. Now the Wires you pulled out earlier. The Brown will go in the middle, the Green one goes Next to the Yellow and the last hole for the Blue. They should slip in and lock in place. Once they are all in, replace the Red holding plug in the New Wire harness (Again used that Nut Pick). Now you can reattach the New Motors Wire Harness to the Bracket. Next, Just plug it back it and you should be all set. I Hope this will help anyone needing to do this. I know I had a lot of trouble finding this Info online or in my Explorer manual. If anyone would like Pics of some of this I will be glad to send them to ya.

thanks for sharing, why not post the pics online, every little bit helps!

I used a #8 fish hook straightened out to remove the red clip on the wiring harness. stick the tip of the hook in any opening and use the hook barb to pull out the clip.
