just completed my motor swap of a 94 ranger motor into a 91 explorer and it seems to be sputtering or backfiring not major just a little but it has new plugs wires and coil

the gas that is in it has been in it for a year or more because the guy i got the car from blew the motor around a year ago so do you think it could be the bad gas ( i put a bottle of injector cleaner and a bottle of heat ) but i have not had a chance to gas it up yet.

do you think its the gas or maybe ( i dont think i did ) i got the firing order wrong

any thoughts would be appreciated

after a year, it could very well be bad gas..is it a full tank? if not you should definitely gas it up and see if that helps

actually the gauge reads empty but im not sure if that is right but im off work at 3 tomorrow so im going to take it to the gas station then

Put premium in it for the extra octane. If you had the firing order wrong, it would miss all the time. Also, check and make sure the wires are firmly attached. If you still have problems, consider new plugs and wires.

any check engine light?
