Hey Guys

I own a 72 F250 XLT ranger and I'm thinking of swap:D:)ping the engine for a late model ford. Maybe a 99 explorer. Is this a good choice or should I look for another type?
And if I would proceed can anyone tell me what problems I'm going to face?

I live in Europe so there are not too many car guys around who have done something like this before.

All the help I can get is apreciated.
Frank.

not sure how many problems you would have but this guy had a few with swapping it into a volvo, even though its a different animal all together

look at some of the threads he started, and maybe you might get a better idea.

hope that helps you somewhat

If you want to swap in a 5.0, a 96/97 Explorer with 5.0 is generally regarded as the easiest donor as it does not have a PATS (antitheft key) system. If you want the 5.0 this is a good donor as it includes GT40/GT40P heads and intake manifolds, plus a decent cam (although a Mustang cam is a bit better). The transmission behind is is buildable to handle lots of power.

I'm not sure if it's available to you, but another good Windsor swap is from a '92-'96 style F-150. They came with both 5.0 and 5.8 motors. '95 or '96 would be the most desirable years; '95 introduced Mass Air metering, and '96 is OBD-II for easier tuning. '87-'91 trucks will work as well but have slightly more basic fuel injection systems. If you want a big block, the F-250/F-350 was also available with a 460 (7.5L) V-8.

The Explorer's 5.0 is a bit better for power than the F-150's 5.0, but the F-150's 5.8 is the way to go if you want torque.
