Is it possible to convert to a newer (the style before the brand new boxy style) Mountaineer air dam? I noticed today that the frontend bumper on the Mountaineers is pretty cool, at least better than my current one. Just a thought, suggestions welcome.

I beg to differ. It will fit. I beleive 95XLT has done it. And maybe ESPNFREAK also.

Yup, done it, and it was easy, bolt right up! get some ones with the plastic inside, supposedly they hold better. Anyways, it should be a direct fit, the mounty is the same as the explorer. if you cant tell i got all sorts of sport trac and newer stuff on my car :-)

I stand corrected; I was basing it on the fact that front spoilers for the different years have different part numbers from several suppliers.

Glad it worked for you.

espnfreak, got any pics of the airdam installed?

Your talking about the "bumper"? right? I dont have any straight forward pics of it, but i got a black one, it was gray first, but i got a black cover, it looks good, then i painted my grille black. lemme say it looks a lot better than my 96 did. pics of it when i started modding look crappy, i love the looks now

Yes I mean the bumper too. And we're talking about a Mountaineer bumper you've installed, correct?

it was stocked from bumpers.com as a explorer one, i dont think there's a difference?

you know.. the other night I was sitting in a parking lot staring at someone's '98+ mounty looking at the front end differences.. it seems to be, everything on the fornt would pretty much be a bolt on.. I mean there don't seem to be many changes at all, I dont think you'd even need to replace the front fenders.. if you were to do the whole front end. something worth looking into.

I like the bumpers on those too, but hey man, if yer gonna go.. go all the way lol, get the mounty's entire front end with a billet grille or somethin.. should be great! :P

There is a difference, a big difference. Take a look at a 99 Mountaineer's front bumper one day, it looks much more sleek and sporty.

Darkfox, I think switching to a whole Mountaineer front clip would be a bit extreme, lol. Just weighing my options with the bumpers right now.

why not put on a explorer 99 one, why the mounty one

I plan on putting a 99 one on, just wanted to see if a Mounty one would work. And I'm getting it from bumpers.com, but the s&h charges make me cringe (even though I only live about 300 MI away from their headquarters). :o

yea, I guess yer right.. but ya gotta love those crystal headlights! heh, let us know how it turns out, I was sitting in the parking lot waiting on class this morning staring at the front end of a '98+ X, I found it odd that we have the bumper and then an air dam below it, and they only have the bumper, yet it doesn't look too small heh.. god the things I think about sometimes lol

Yes, that's what we're talking about. And yes, it will fit your 98.

As i recall, a lot! i think like 60-100? i had my friend pick it up and drive it down here

I have no idea what their shipping rates are. I have to call them tomorrow to see what they are. S&h will be 1/4 the cost of the bumper itself :( :(
