So I searched and came up goose eggs. I'm looking to mount a laptop in my truck. Yet still have room for a passanger. I won't use it constantly, but want to have it there when I need it. If I had to snap it in or something that would be fine.
Discuss. Someone has to have done it.

Im curious why you want to mount your laptop in your car?

stereo, video, engine diagnostics and tuning, movies, gps, mapping and more.
Just dont get carried away ad use it while driving.

Get a jotto desk or build something similar. That was my plan that got sidetracked with the old truck.

Cool setup. Looks like a cop car though. Laptops are great. You can do a lot with a laptop/computer and a vehicle (with the right software).

Check with supply houses that sell to the police. They have TONS of parts for mounting just about anything you can imagine in your car. I used ot have some of those sites bookmarked, but can't find them at the moment....

I have a 12.1" touch screen mounted on the center counsel with a docking station under the dash, pass side foot well. It works great I just plug my laptop into the dock and I am good to go. Works great with my GPS also have WiFI and other goodies. I will e-mail pics if you like it was an easy setup.

PM me e-mail or tell me how to post pics.

The touch screen was aprox $250 the dock was $100 and about $50 for misc parts. It took about 1-2 hrs to set up.

I can flip the screen forward with the truck in drive so I can reach the heat and A/C

Was important for the colors to match, not perfect but close

I am no carpenter LOL The dock is a Easidock it uses a card that goes into the side port on the laptop (PCI??) I use this to save on space as docks are big and the Easidock is on a 4' cable so I can have the laptop on the pass seat if I wont.

You can see the one problem is the monitor I got is not daylight friendly LOL I hope to be upgrading the monitor but "daylight readable" ones are big bucks

SOB THAT IS BRILLIANT
If there is anyway you could PM me your phone and we could discuss this in detail I'd be grateful.

It's a TOUCH SCREEN.... he doesn't need a keyboard to watch movies, and should he, it appears that the laptop in the mount should have one, right?

I jsut got a new laptop and I cannot WAIT to have it setup in my 96 Ex (camping, tow rig) This is awesome....DVD's at the lake, GPS, and vehicle tuning = drool.

Nice setup!

I do not need a mouse but I do have one hooked up as well as a mini keyboard I have them in the center console. Mostly I use it for the GPS I never get lost, but it is my laptop that I use for work and home (I am typing on it now). My job puts me in my truck for a long time, I drive all over New England it is nice to have all my e-mails and files with me at all times.

I have never used it to play a DVD but I am sure it would work.

I have used a PDA but once you use this setup you would never go back.

Movies look better on the laptop and I still cant stuff a DVD into my PDA.

I have a Garmin Palm Pilot with built in GPS I use for mapping and GPS stuff, but the laptop has many advantages IMO.

I just couldn't resist....... I must be proud of this or something:)

OK, I've got to ask: How did you do it? It looks like it's all molded-in from the factory..... I've got some parts I'd like to modify that way, but have no clue.

Do-tell, do-tell!!
