Hey guys, looking to build my explorer up (already lifted on 33s, light bar, LED Halo headlights, cool stuff) and want to add an aftermarket muffler to get a nice truck-ish sound going (but not insanely loud). I have a 2003 4.6L V8 4WD. What are some important specs I should keep in mind when shopping, and (if applicable) could you maybe link some good mufflers you've used/are using? Thanks!

I currently have no muffler it’s just straight pipe but the piping on my 02 4.6 mountaineer Atleast was 2.25 inches coming out of the cat going into the muffler and going out. Then the exhaust tip flares to 2.5 at the very end after the axle by the spare.

I have an '05 with the V8. I run a Flowmaster Super 44, it's $86 and sounds mean without being obnoxious. Since the stock muffler is so big compared to the Flowmaster I had to run about 18 inches of extra piping, which is actually quite easy. Link for it here: Flowmaster Street Performance Mufflers (Super 44 Series Muffler) | Ford Explorer 4.6L V8 (2002-2005)
That one looks great! I think I'll give it a try. Is the piping stuff something I can do or will I need to go to a welding shop?

My dad and I just used JB Weld or something to hold it on, and there's been no problems after two months. You can also use exhaust clamps to do it as well. If you don't know how to weld and you want it welded, have a shop do it. We went to the auto parts store for extra pipe.
